The-Meadow-of-Maine-026.jpg

Once upon a time…

I learned to love flowers while spending time in my mother’s expansive gardens in Cincinnati. With a never ending supply of freshly picked flowers close at hand, I learned to arrange early on. Someone once said, “I’d rather have flowers than money.” I think I agree with that! It’s like having sunshine on a cloudy day.

After 18 years owning a gift and home furnishing business in Cincinnati (Flowers of the Meadow) my husband and I and Jack, our beloved beagle, made the move to Maine. We caravanned in our  Jeeps and arrived mid-February, 2004 to twenty below zero weather. Oops; don't move to Maine in February!

After a long winter settling in I realized how much I missed my shop.   So with lilacs blooming everywhere, we began to search for a  location and found a wonderful cottage on Main Street with a beautiful view of Blue Hill Bay. And that's how The Meadow of Blue Hill came to pass.

I love Christmas!

Before the first snowfall, I collect balsam tips from the fir trees around our farmhouse and create fresh wreaths for our door, balsam centerpieces for the dinner table, and balsam garlands for the mantel. (The house smells divine!)

At Christmastime we sell our wreaths and centerpieces to customers around the country, shipping hundreds each year. They are unbelievably beautiful and luxurious if I do say so myself. I personally make every velvet bow, and decorate each one by hand.

A Maine Sampler

We never tire of the beauty that surrounds us on the coast of Maine. In fact, we’ve never met anyone who didn’t agree! From sailing the blue waters of Penobscot Bay to taking our beagles exploring the woods and fields around our old farmhouse, we are never disappointed. Here are some snapshots of our life hereabouts.
